About Me

I’m a Houston 1991 alum (not charter corps since that was the year before).  Despite writing two books and teaching for thirteen of the past nineteen years, I’m mostly ignored by TFA though I have a lot of ‘suggestions’ for how they can improve.

I’m also a two-time recipient of the Math For America master teacher fellowship.

I started writing this blog a few years ago as a way to test out material for my latest book.  Then, after getting a lot of positive comments, I started blogging more, and now it’s been in the top 10 blogs on this site for a while.

I’d like to see TFA improve their teacher training since new CMs can’t afford to have a bad first year if they’re only going to teach for two years.

Good luck to all new CMs.  When you read my stuff, don’t take it as ‘gospel’ by any means.  I want it to be fodder for you to think critically about what works, what doesn’t work, what works for some and not for others and why.
